Stuck in another day in cubeville? Avalon might be the cure to lunchtime blues if you’re trying to eat healthy or just really need a chocolate sea salt cookie.
The time has finally come we now have an opening date for the new downtown Avalon Cafe and Bakery. The restaurant will open on Friday, April 14.
During a tour of the Avalon Bakehouse yesterday we were able to get a look at the layout of the new digs. Avalon’s main focus for this location is all of the downtown officer workers.
People have been clamoring for quick, healthy, and affordable meal options, and Avalon has taken this to heart.
First of all there will be a full wall of coolers that will be stocked with grab and go salads and sandwiches. There will also be coolers stocked with beer and wine. Yes, that’s right you will be able to pick up something for dinner and grab that bottle of red (or white) to take it home. Let’s hear it for not having to make an additional stop at the party store!
The restaurant will have a small kitchen that will have a pizza oven. This is the first pizza oven for Avalon, and from what we hear the pizza options are going to be fantastic.
The coffee bar will feature Mighty Good Coffee. Avalon now serves Mighty Good Coffee at all of their locations.
The kitchen is pretty small so the commissary at the Avalon Bakehouse will prep anything that can be cooked or prepared in advance. Think salads, sandwiches, and soups. The commissary is also being used for the grab and go section at the Avalon Cafe and Kitchen in Ann Arbor.
The restaurant will have a mix of both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating will be great once the weather warms up. There is nothing like people watching in Detroit during lunch.
The Avalon Cafe and Bakery will be located at 1049 Woodward (on the corner of Woodward and State.)
