Detroiters love a deal. And it’s even better when it’s a warm way to shuttle from one part of downtown to another.
Thanks to Michelin (yes, the tire company) the Detroit People Mover will be free for all for the entire day of Thanksgiving.
“Michelin has several great partnerships in the state of Michigan and providing free transportation on the Detroit People Mover for this busy Thanksgiving is something that we’re excited about. Michelin is a mobility company and we hope this partnership helps people get around a little bit easier on this special day for the city.” – Ken Kruithof, Michelin North America
From 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., customers may ride free of charge at any of the People Mover stations. Thousands upon thousands of people are expected to be downtown for the parade, Detroit Lions game, and other festivities.
Regular Detroit People Mover service hours will return on Friday, November 28.
Also, a note for bus riders. On November 27 only, the Detroit Department of Transportation has coordinated with the People Mover so that the layover of the Eastside routes happens at the People Mover’s Bricktown Station (that’s near Greektown Casino). Routes include #7 Cadillac-Harper, #10 Chene, #31 Mack, #34Gratiot and #48 Van Dyke. DDOT riders should board these routes at Bricktown Station, located on Beaubien St., north of Larned.
