There is something special about listening to someone tell their story, and storytelling events have become pretty popular in the past few years.
Every month The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers holds an evening of storytelling at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
The next evening of storytelling is this Friday, March 17. The theme for the evening is “School Days.”
The education news organization Chalkbeat reached out to Twisted Storytellers to put together an evening of storytelling. Chalkbeat is new to Detroit, and this event is in honor of their official launch.
The stories that will be shared tell the story of what is happening in Detroit schools from the point of view of teachers, parents, and students. The storytellers have been working with Satori Shakoor who is the host and Executive Producer of The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers.
Some of the storytellers were chosen based on their submitted written pieces, while others were approached by both organizations because they have an important story to tell.
How about we get to know our storytellers for the evening.

Brittany Rogers is a Detroit Public School educator, alumna and parent who relentlessly embraces Detroit schools.
The evening would not be complete without a musical and dance performance. This month’s performers are jazz flutist Deblon Jackson and the Renaissance Dance Department.
