Do you need something fun to do to break up the winter blues? You’re in luck because The Fire & Ice Festival in Rochester is coming up on January 20 through 22.
This is the 10th anniversary for the festival in downtown Rochester. The whole thing happens on East Water and Third street.
“Our downtown Rochester businesses and residents love the Fire & Ice Festival,” said Rochester Mayor Cathy Daldin. “It is a wonderful opportunity to spotlight our community to individuals from all over Michigan.”
The family friendly event is chock full of fun activities to do, such as ice skating, dog sledding, tube sledding, ice carving competition, a 5K race, pet adoption, fireworks, light show, and live music.
The ice carving competition will be made up of college students from numerous culinary art programs throughout Southeast Michigan. The winner of the competition will be announced on Saturday evening.
If you’re interested in participating in the Brooksie Way Chill at the Mills 5k you can register up until the race Sunday, January 22. The race starts at 9:30 a.m.
There are a few options for food. You can grab some food and in the TasteFest and Beer Tent. It also goes without saying that there will be food trucks on site if you feel like grabbing something quickly.
If you feel like doing some good while you eat head over to the Rochester Fire Department. They will be hosting a spaghetti dinner on Friday and Saturday night. They will also be hosting a pancake breakfast on Sunday morning. Proceeds from all three meals will benefit the Rochester Area Youth Assistance (RAYA).
Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center will be on hand with animals up for adoption. You will also be able to renew or purchase dog licenses while you’re at it.

The hours for the Fire & Ice Festival are as follows: Friday, January 20 5 a.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday, January 21 10 a.m. – 9 p.m., and Sunday, January 22 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Fireworks are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Parking is available in downtown Rochester or at Buffalo Wild Wings at 1234 Walton in Rochester. There will also be a free shuttle running between the restaurant and the festival.
