The Fisher Building keeps rolling along, gaining new retail and restaurant tenants. The newest is City Bakery, one of the most visited bakeries in the world and is based out of New York City.
According to developers The Platform, the location inside the Fisher Arcade will be City Bakery’s first outside of New York and Japan.
City Bakery is multi-faceted. It’s described as part-bakery, part-coffee house, part-chocolate shop, part-café, and part-catering company. The menus have both sweet and savory options, and the press release had almost all the modern food buzzwords – local, seasonal and largely organic.
The Fisher location will be open from early morning until late afternoon, and expects to start serving customers in the fall.
It will have breakfast, lunch, afternoon desserts and catering to all Fisher visitors.
A full-service commissary will also be built in the concourse of Fisher to support future restaurants, pop-ups and other food and drink centered ideas.
“When we opened our first location in Union Square, the neighborhood was on the cusp of revival, much like New Center is today,” said founder Maury Rubin in a statement. “We are especially thrilled to be in the historic Fisher Building. Coming to Detroit in this moment of rejuvenation is special enough, and being able to open in a landmark like the Fisher Building is a gift.”
“Creativity is the lifeblood of City Bakery, and the creative mood and landscape of Detroit right now is something we want to be a part of,” Rubin said.
