In a heartwarming story, four boys – Kenny, Kenneth, Andrew and Kevin – were helping a woman move when they discovered the dog, tied up with bungee cords at an abandoned house.

They named the dog Sparkle.

Kenny, Kenneth, Andrew and Kevin took care of Sparkle until the rescue organization Detroit Pit Crew could help.

“You could tell they really love this dog,” Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue founder Theresa Sumpter said to WDIV. “They were protective of the dog and wanted to make sure the dog was going to a good place.”

The Detroit Pit Crew (DPC) dog rescue is a non profit organization. Their mission, according to their website, is to rescue destitute dogs in Detroit, and are a crew of street volunteers that work together to get as many stray, injured, pregnant and destitute dogs off the streets as possible. Their rescue team spends most days out in the streets of Detroit, trapping strays and rescuing dogs out of desperate situations. They also bring to safety dogs that have been used for dog fighting or as bait dogs in dog fighting rings.

The boys were also compensated for their efforts, according to the Facebook page.
