Metro Detroit Lego enthusiasts, rejoice!
You may have heard the news that a Legoland Discovery Center will open at Great Lakes Crossing in the Spring of next year, but that’s just the tip of the plastic iceberg.
Besides boasting 32,000-square-feet of indoor space filled to the gills with lego bricks and themed exhibits like a 4D cinema, two interactive rides, and several play areas, the store will also immortalize several Detroit landmarks in Lego glory.
A vote was held on Facebook in order to decide which landmark would have the first honor of being constructed and unveiled at the soft open of the store early next year, and once the final vote was cast, The Renaissance Center was crowned as the favorite landmark of Detroiters, and thus, will be the first model constructed for the event.
The Renaissance Center, beyond housing the corporate headquarters of General Motors and offices for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and a Marriott Hotel, is the tallest building in Michigan and the tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere.
The Renaissance center is on the first of ten landmarks that will receive the Lego treatment, and will be eventually be joined by these friends:
- Spirit of Detroit
- Belle Isle
- Motown Museum
- Fox Theater
- Guardian Building
- Comerica Park
- Uniroyal Tire
- Michigan Central Station
- Heidelberg Project
