Detroit comedian Jake Russell is set to present his latest comedy show "Do the Knowledge" at Planet Ant Theatre, featuring stand-up comedy and sketches that explore the Black experience in America.

The show promises to blend humor with education, tackling topics ranging from everyday experiences to historical events.

Following the success of his acclaimed one-man show "Birth of a Ho Ass Nation," which dealt with themes including slavery and American history, Russell continues his approach of using comedy as a vehicle for truth-telling.

"The whole gist of it is stand-up and sketches from a black perspective, educating people on the black perspective," says Russell.

The show will cover a broad spectrum of topics, from lighthearted observations about cultural differences in dealing with customer service, to more serious subjects like Frederick Douglas and slavery.

Russell, known for his work at venues like Planet Ant and Go Comedy, developed his unique style of one-man sketches through regular performances at Matt Knile's Variety Show in Ferndale. His approach combines sharp social commentary with engaging theatrical performance, making difficult conversations more accessible through humor.

"Comedy is a great way to make people understand how bad things are. It's a great way to reveal the truth," says Russell. "You can give them some truth with some chaser."

"Do the Knowledge" will run at Planet Ant Theatre on February 14, 15, 16, 21, and 22 at 8pm, with a Sunday matinee performance at 3pm. Do The Knowledge also includes other black comics such as Cliff Demarco and Darrick Ervin II.
