On Saturday, May 21, the Detroit Mower Gang is hosting a 12-hour marathon of cleaning, cutting, and mowing across the Metro Detroit area. Fondly known as the Motown Mowdown, the event is the Mower Gang’s biggest.
The public is welcomed and encouraged to volunteer during this day-long mowing fest. The event will start at 10 a.m. at O’Shea Playground and end at 10 p.m. at Dorais Playground.
Interested volunteers should meet at O’Shea Playground shortly before 10 a.m. There, everyone will be assigned to a team with a team leader. Each team and its members will be given a list of about eight parks that they are responsible for. The team leaders will receive boxes of SWAG generously donated by Craftsman, along with supplies like trash bags, gloves, gear, water, and snacks. Volunteers will receive their team leaders’ cell phone numbers as well.
Throughout the day, there will be pit-stops and a designated lunch spot. After lunch, the teams go back to work. The day ends at Dorais Playground. Once the playground is mowed and cleaned, the Detroit Mower Gang will give out awards.

The biggest award will be the Craftsman Motown Mowdown Grand Champion. This award is for the person who mows the most grass during the 12-hour period. The champion is awarded a giant championship belt and a set of Craftsman Tools. Along with the set of tools, Craftsman also donated hoodies and work gloves.
Volunteers are able to join and leave the event at any time, but you’re encouraged to stay if you can.
If you can’t volunteer but still want to support the Craftsman Motown Mowdown, the Mower Gang is looking for a lunch sponsor that can quickly feed 40 to 50 people.
