One of Detroit’s radio legends has died.
Mike Clark, long-time host on 101.1 The WRIF and co-creator of the Drew and Mike Podcast, passed away in his sleep Monday night.
Clark was 63.
The cause of death is not known as we record the show.
The of duo of Drew Lane and Mike Clark were on the airwaves from 1992 through 2013. After being replaced on WRIF by Dave and Chuck the Freak, Clark and Lane found success through podcasting beginning in 2016.
For years, Drew Lane and Mike Clark were the top of the heap when it comes to Arbitron ratings in the Detroit market.
Clark had been on the podcast less frequently as he dealt with health issues. According to the Drew and Mike podcast archives, he only appeared once in 2018, twice in 2017 and ended his regular appearances in 2016.
Here’s part of the statement from Mike Clark’s facebook page, appropriate as he was such a fan of flying:
“It is with great sadness that we announce that Mike Clark has passed away during the night. He is now flying high like he always wanted.”
Thank you, Mike Clark, for your contributions to Detroit radio and podcasting.
