When it comes to ridesharing, competition is hot locally between Uber and Lyft, two national companies where you can use their app to summon a ride home.
They’ve changed the game when it comes to going out in Detroit, as the local taxi companies are on balance (from years of personal experience) terribly unreliable, often aren’t around when you need them, and often turn off their fare meter.
One of the top destinations for going out is Little Caesars Arena, home to the Detroit Red Wings, Pistons, and numerous concerts.
Uber today announced an exclusive partnership with the arena, where Uber will be the only company with a designated pick up and drop off zone. It will be located on the West Fisher Service Drive, between Park and Woodward Avenues, very close to arena entrances.
“We’re excited to announce this partnership with Uber as the official rideshare service for Little Caesars Arena,” said Tom Wilson, Olympia Entertainment President and CEO and Interim President of 313 Presents. “With more than 90 home games between the Red Wings and Pistons, as well as countless other concerts, shows and private events plus four full service restaurants, there is a great deal of activity in and around Little Caesars Arena every night.”
You still will be able to use Lyft or taxis to and from the arena, however, they won’t be able to use the dedicated pick-up zone.
Uber is offering new users one free ride up to $15. Users can enter LCARENA into the app to redeem the offer now through December 31, 2018.
