Thousands of young Detroiters are homeless on an ongoing basis, and more than 15,000 people in total are estimated to be homeless in the city.
On March 23, young professionals will spend one night outside to raise money to help the cause.
And what they’re looking to raise is not pocket change, either.
The second annual Sleep Out: Young Professional Edition for Covenant House of Michigan is part of a nationwide event taking place that night in 10 cities across North America.
Each sleeper is raising at least $1,000 and will spend the night outside on the grounds of the facility in North Corktown in an effort to identify with those who are homeless.
“Our goal right now is to raise $60,000 by March 23rd and we just hit our halfway point which is phenomenal,” said Nicole Pineage the co-lead for the Sleep Out: Young Professionals Edition. “We still have the rest of March to meet our goal and raise even more than that. All of this will go back to support the mission at Covenant House and support the youth who are saying there. It will allow this amazing program to continue to support the Detroit Community.”
If you are between the ages of 23 and 39 and would like to get involved with the Sleep Out, you still have time to sign up or form a team. You can register, start a team, or donate here.
The Sleep Out: Young Professionals Edition Detroit will take place on Friday, March 23 from 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. at Covenant House located at 2959 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Detroit, MI 48208.
