Halftimes at Detroit City FC home matches are about to get … pretty interesting.
The club announced that it’s partnering with eastside tiki bar Lost River to open a tropical-themed bar behind the east grandstand at Keyworth Stadium for the upcoming 2019 season. That’s the side where the Northern Guard Supporters group sits and stages its raucous chants, songs, smoke bombs and dances.
So now, soccer fans can add rum-based tiki drinks — along with free leis — to the list of locally made tipple sold at home matches, adding to beer from Axle Brewing, Stroh’s and Brew Detroit, plus Blake’s Hard Cider and boozes from Detroit City Distlilery. But wait: There’s more!
“As an effort to bring concessions closer to the spectator seating at Keyworth and cut down on wait times, DCFC will be introducing more bars directly behind the two main grandstands of the stadium,” the club said in a release.
The new Detroit City Clubhouse at 3401 E. Lafayette will also host a Lost River popup on Tuesday, May 14 from 5-10 p.m.
City plays its final preseason friendly on Saturday when they travel north to take on the Flint City Bucks, formerly the Michigan Bucks. First kick is at 7 p.m.
Its first regular season match is May 12 at the Michigan Stars at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac. Its first home game at Keyworth doesn’t come until the second game of the season, May 19 at 5 p.m. against Kalamazoo FC.
