Gather with your fellow Detroiters on Sunday, March 20 to celebrate Detroit’s victory over the Nain Rouge, the fiendish red imp who constantly plots Detroit’s demise.
The Marche du Nain Rouge starts at 1 p.m. in the parking lot of Traffic Jam & Snug, 511 W. Canfield St. The parade will proceed down Second Avenue for nine blocks then turn West on Temple and continue around Cass Park. It will end at the Masonic Temple.
Parade goers are encouraged to come masked or fully costumed. There will be cash prizes to Detroit neighborhood groups with the best floats. The feel, if you haven’t gone, is basically the closest thing Detroit has to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
There is no cost to attend, but parking might. Organizers share that it is available at Parking Lot 72, 4510 Cass Ave., and Structure 8, 91 W. Forest. Both parking options are $7.
After the Marche there will be a party from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the TV Lounge, 2548 Grand River Ave. The party will have great music, drinks, and plenty of dancing. The afterparty is a fundraising event for the Good Vibe Tribe, a local Burning Man theme camp. Funds will go toward improvements for The Fort, a giant adult play structure.
So clear your calendars for Sunday, March 20 and help celebrate Detroit’s victory over the Nain Rouge.
