Detroit and New Orleans. Both used to be under control of the French so why shouldn’t we share a tradition or two? We will.

On Friday, February 24, Mardi Gras en Rouge will come to life with music, food and live entertainment with the help of the soon-to-open Creole restaurant, Gabriel Hall, in West Village.

That day Detroit’s flavor will come by way of the Big Easy with a chance to drink hurricanes, sample some crawfish pie and hit the dance floor to the sounds of the Gabriel Brass Band. There will also entertainment from Lushes LaMoan, Caribbean Mardi Gras Productions, DJ Skeez and Comedian Emcee John Bell.

All proceeds will benefit Gabriel Hall and Marche du Nain Rouge parade, which take place Sunday, March 26 in Midtown where you can join thousands of people in the fun.

“Detroit is ready for a party, and this one is for a good cause, getting Gabriel Hall’s doors open so we can share our music and food with everyone,” says Dameon Gabriel,co-founder of Gabriel Hall and leader of Gabriel Brass Band. He also runs the Gabriel Music Society, a nonprofit that provides music outreach to local youth.

So get read to soak in the flavor and party at the Tangent Gallery/Hastings Street Ballroom at 715 E. Milwaukee St. It all starts at 8:00 p.m. Make sure to dress to impress with a splash of red and wear Mardi Gras masks.

“The Marche du Nain Rouge is all about celebration, and this party gets the Marche season started,” says Marche organizer Francis Grunow. “The benefit gala also will help us cover the many expenses of organizing the annual parade.”

To make sure there’s a sharing of culture and custom Louisiana native and Gabriel Hall’s executive chef Ederique Goudia  will serve up traditional food from New Orleans and the bar will be stocked with Mardi Gras cocktails.

There will also be a best of Detroit silent auction and live auction of a piece created on site by a local artist.
