Lovers of cheese and chocolate will have a new place to satiate their cravings in Midtown.
Mongers’ Provisions, a store by the folks who own Provisions in Ferndale, plans to open in November at 4240 Cass, between Willis and Canfield. Owners Zach Berg and William Werner will sell a rotating selection of domestic and imported cheeses as well as globally sourced chocolate and charcuterie.
They’re also going to sell what they call “complimentary” products and offer tastings and classes. They’ll also sell fresh and frozen meat from Farm Field Table.
The Midtown store will be bigger than their Ferndale location. In Midtown they’ll have a little more than 1,000 square feet.
Both founders are boomerangs to Metro Detroit after spending time in California. Werner previously worked as a manager for Gayle’s Chocolates in Royal Oak and has traveled the world to study chocolate. Berg started in kosher catering and eventually moved on to Zingerman’s Deli before attending culinary school at the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley.
The pair are graduates of business development programs in Detroit, including Techtown Detroit’s Retail Boot Camp and the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business project in Detroit.
The new store’s hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday thru Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday thru Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
