Ready to get your yoga on? Ready to warm up with the garudasana (eagle pose), do the happy baby or breath using the ujjayi?

You can do it all and more on the Detroit riverfront by the light of the moon.

On Wednesday, July 20, at 9:00 p.m. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy will host the first Moonlight Yoga session of the summer at West RiverFront Park located at 1801 W. Jefferson.

Moonlight Yoga is more than just fun. It can help you reduce stress and lose weight. It improves your mood, boosts confidence, lowers the risk of injury, increases flexibility, improves muscle tone and strength as well as lowers blood pressure and improves your posture.

Plus, at Moonlight Yoga, you get to do all those poses with glowing jewelry and 16-inch lighted glow batons. You’ll light up the riverfront.

With all that good stuff, why wait?

If you’re interested in participating you can register online for $5 here: http://www.detroitriverfront.org/things-to-do/moonlight-yoga.

If you miss tonight, don’t worry. There will be two more sessions held on August 3 and August 24. Registration opens two weeks prior to each session.

Moonlight Yoga is part of a multi-year partnership initiative between Blue Cross and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy called Live the Riverfront, which encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through a series of free activities along the riverfront.

Other components of Live the Riverfront include Walk the RiverWalk Wednesdays, weekly T’ai Chi and yoga classes, the annual Riverfront Run and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan  Fit Park along the Dequindre Cut.
