There’s going to be even more racing at Belle Isle State Park, this time with a partially dirt track and a heart-stopping 70 foot jump.
We’re getting word that the Red Bull Global Rallycross series will race July 25 and 26 on Belle Isle in Detroit. There’s drifting, high contact between cars, and much more. Check out the GoPro reel from last year – this isn’t a place where if there’s a tap of the fender the car is out of the race. They just keep going.
This is the same site as the Indycar racing. There was a false start for Red Bull Global Rallycross in 2014 with a race canceled a month before the starting flag was to wave.
“Racing in the Motor City has always been a priority for Red Bull Global Rallycross,” said Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “We know that local fans have been waiting patiently for us to make the trip to Detroit, and we are pleased to do so by competing on Belle Isle, which has its own rich motorsports heritage. The added bonus of this being a doubleheader event means that we will be able to provide incredible value and a fantastic show for our fans.”
Exact track details are currently not available, but we’ve included an example of a typical track layout below.
There will be two races, counting as rounds five and six of the series’ 2015 championship. It will be the second of three doubleheaders on the schedule. The track will be dirt and tarmac with a giant 70 foot jump. This is a very open-access event and includes autograph sessions and interactions with the drivers, as well as paddock access.
