May is right around the corner, which means the Motor City Makeover will soon be upon us. Motor City Makeover is a way for residents, community groups, and businesses can work together to clean up the city. This year the event will happen over three Saturdays in May (May 7, 14, and 21).
Yesterday Mayor Mike Duggan held a press conference at Cody High School to announce this year Motor City Makeover. He urged Detroiters to get involved.
“The reality is city government can’t do everything. It’s got to be a partnership with the community, with the business leadership, and our own officials,” said Duggan.
Volunteers can sign up on the new volunteer page for the City of Detroit. In order to sign up people will need to have an email. The process has a few steps, but after you are done filling out the application it will be saved in the system. This means that if you plan on volunteering for Angel’s Night in October you won’t have to do another application.
There is not a lack of things to do to help make the city better. Volunteers can sign up to help pick up trash from parks and schools, remove graffiti, board up abandoned houses, and clear empty lots of debris. Last year 8,000 volunteers helped clean up 1,300 tons of debris across the city.
