Moving, regardless of whether it’s across town or across the country, is expensive. Planning for it financially can be difficult, especially if you have no idea where to start. Now, you can get a rough estimate of what you’ll need to pay when you’re ready to move.
Thumbtack has released five free interactive moving calculators to help you determine how much you’ll need to budget. The calculators cover local moving, long-distance moving, cleaning, packing, and furniture moving.
How it works
First, select your calculator. If you’re moving locally (defined as under 50 miles) you’d choose the local moving calculator.
Next, select what you’re moving. Your options here range from a few things to a four-bedroom house.
After that, choose whether or not you need a moving van and select the amount of large and small boxes that need to be moved.
Based on the above criteria, the cost calculator will give you an estimate.
Here’s an example of what you’d pay movers if you wanted to move locally from the 48201 ZIP code.
Thumbtack’s cost calculators use several factors to determine your estimate, including the number of items involved, your transportation requirements, and the distance of your move. The estimates are based on actual historical quotes sent by moving professionals to customers with the same needs and in your same geographic region.
Keep in mind that these are average local moving estimates. You may end up paying a little more or a little less, so remember to give yourself some financial cushion while budgeting.
