Detroit’s Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts will open its 90th season next month with a tribute to Aretha Franklin.
The gala reopening event is October 11 with a free renaming ceremony of “Aretha’s Jazz Cafe” in honor of the Queen of Soul, who died last month. Kingdom, the Aretha’s Jazz Cafe house band, will perform.
The band features many members who have performed with Franklin, who performed at Music Hall many times over her career and gave her last vocal performance in Detroit just outside of it in 2017.
