Remember those science fairs in middle school? I’m talking about the ones where everyone in the class showed up with a baking soda and vinegar volcano, convinced that their project would win first place.
If those memories make you smile, get ready to jump for joy.
Nerd Nite Detroit is celebrating its first ever Food Science Fair on October 8 from 8-10 p.m at COLORS Detroit, located at 311 E. Grand River Ave.
Don’t worry. It’s going to be way cooler than a middle school science fair.
For just $10, you can enjoy a science fair, great food, and adult beverages. You can buy tickets online ahead of time or at the door. Proceeds from the event support COLORS’ community development and job training programs.
Interactive demonstrations and presentations will abound, covering subjects like the neuroscience of taste, the nitty-gritty of beer making, and cooking with liquid nitrogen (note: please don’t try that one at home).
Nerd Nite Detroit is proud to announce a stellar list of presenters for the Food Science Fair, including:
Justin Riopelle, Brewmaster at Detroit Beer Co.
Nathan Glitman, Barista at Chazzano Coffee
Charlie Gibson, Outreach Coordinator at the Michigan Science Center
Thomas Fischer, Professor at Wayne State University Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience
Julie Lesnick, Assistant Professor at Wayne State University Department of Anthropology
After you’ve spent the evening learning the secrets behind great beer and food, you can dance the night away with your fellow nerds. DJ Peter Croce will mesmerize the crowd with the hottest jams from 10 p.m. to midnight.
Bring a fellow nerd or two and make a night of learning about the science of taste while eating delicious food.
