If you have ever walked through The Belt downtown you might have noticed the outdoor bar called The Skip. The bar has been a pretty happening place since it opened this summer.
The al fresco bar known for their frozen drinks and Shepard Fairey mural was originally going to be be a spring to fall establishment. But there’s more. The successful bar announced Monday that they will be installing a glass enclosure to allow The Skip to be open all year.
Installation of the enclosure will happen in the next few weeks. The bar will be closed during construction.
Once the bar reopens it will have a new winter drink menu. They will still have the signature frozen beverages, but there will also be rotating hot drinks to showcase the season. You will be able to stop in for a Pumpkin Spiced Irish Coffee or the Applejack Cider.
If you like to nosh while you drink (like I do) you will be in for a treat, because there will also be a a food cart that will offer rotating food options for guests.
“We consider The Skip a getaway within the city of Detroit, a place to unwind and enjoy great conversation in a vibrant atmosphere and we are thrilled to soon be able to offer that all four seasons,” said partner Anthony Curis. “With the addition of our food cart, this will all add to the growth of The Belt as a year-round pedestrian destination.”
The Skip will continue to be open with heaters until they start the construction. You will be able to stay up to date on the status of the glass installation on The Skip’s Facebook Page.
Hours for The Skip are: Thursday and Sunday 4:00 PM- 10:00 PM, Friday and Saturday 3:00 PM-2:00 AM. The Belt is located between Broadway and Library and connects Gratiot and Grand River in Detroit.
