Last year we reported that This Old House was coming to Detroit to renovate two houses in the city.
While the cast and crew were here they filmed 10 episodes for the broadcast show and four episodes for a digital series called Detroit. One House At A Time.
The Detroit based episodes will air on Detroit Public Television (channel 56) on Monday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m. There will be a repeat broadcast on Saturday, April 9 at 9:00 a.m.
But, if you are like me and hate the idea of waiting until April to watch the premier. I have good news for you. For the first time ever This Old House has produced a digital series.
Detroit. One House At A Time will be a four week series and the first episode will be available on Friday, March 3. You will be able to find the digital series on ThisOldHouse.com and PBS.org.
The show will feature two houses located in the city of Detroit.
The first house is located in Russell Woods and was purchased by Frank and Tamiko Polk. The home had been abandoned for a number of years before the Polk’s purchased it from the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
The Polk’s did the majority of the renovations with help from their family, friends, and the community.
“It quickly became evident that this was truly a community-supported project,” says senior producer John Tomlin. “Detroit is a special place that does not give up, and all the people who donated their time to this renovation reminded us of the importance of community and helping your neighbors.”
This Old House worked on the second house which is located in the Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood. This house is currently owned by the Detroit Land Bank, and is part of the Rehabbed and Ready Program.
The Grandmont Rosedale house was built in 1930’s and had been abandoned for at least 10 years.
I was able to visit the second house last December. I could barely recognize the house from the before pictures. I can not wait to see the show and the renovation of this house.
