A retired Detroit firefighter is going to get his 1939 home renovated, thanks to the 37th season of the PBS show, “This Old House,” that’s coming to Detroit.
The show will feature a two-story Detroit residence in the Russell Woods neighborhood, which is located near West Davison and Livernois in Northwest Detroit.
There will be 10 episodes covering the rehab of the 1,800-square-foot home featured in the show, and filming has already begun. The home was previously owned by the Detroit Land Bank Authority, who got ahold of the blighted property under the city of Detroit’s nuisance abatement program. The home was purchased by the family.
The plans include a lot of work, including a new roof, a kitchen, and bathrooms, along with a new furnace, a water heater, and other mechanical systems.
There will also be some historic details restored, like the leaded stained glass windows and archways, “as the homeowners blend their modern aesthetics with the home’s historic details,” according to the press release.
“The Detroit episodes will present the city’s housing situation in a new light, as residents and leaders are finding the best ways to reclaim and restore their community homes,” says Chris Wolfe, executive producer of the show in a statement. “Our team is honored to take part in these efforts in this landmark city.”
