Atwater Brewery, founded in 1997 has been one of Michigan’s fastest growing craft breweries. The biggest brewery in Detroit has partnered with Elite Brands to distribute their beer throughout the entire state of Colorado.
Those in the Rocky Mountain State are now able to enjoy their Vanilla Java Porter, Dirty Blonde and Hop-A-Peel IPA. They will be available in both packaged and draft options, as well as some limited seasonal draft items.
“We are so excited to bring the spirit of Detroit beer to our friends in the great state of Colorado,” says Atwater Brewing President, Mark Rieth. “We’ve been focused on making great craft lagers and ales with the perfect amount of Detroit swagger for years and are truly excited to share our vision with beer lovers in Colorado.”
This will add to the number of states that will be able to enjoy Detroit suds. Plans released earlier include the states of California, New York and New Jersey.
It’s a rarity for breweries from the east to expand west over the Mississippi.
“Many breweries are somewhat intimidated by crossing that line, but we’re committed to getting our beer to where people want it. That’s what is driving our growth strategy,” said Rieth.
For the past several years Atwater Brewery has grown steadily, with production hitting upwards of 40,000 barrels in 2014 with demand far outpacing supply.
So much demand, in fact, that Atwater is also working on finalizing a new production facility in Austin, Texas.
“This is an exciting time for our brewery,” says Rieth. “It’s just proof that if you roll up your sleeves and dedicate yourself to making beer you believe in with people you believe in, good things happen.”
