It kicks off just after noon — 12:30 p.m. — and runs until 8:30 p.m. so even if you hang out until the end you’ll still be good for work Monday morning. We’re going to get into the lineup for the day in a second, but let’s talk a...

For Day To Day Usage, MoGo Bike Share Beats The QLINE Hands Down

When it comes to practicality, the QLINE streetcar has been a disappointment. Our team is pretty bike- and walk- friendly, and will take the bus if the timing makes sense. We have contributors who live near the QLINE and the MoGo stations, and others who live near bus lines and use them (in the suburbs, too). When both opened earlier this year, we had multiple debates over which service was going to come out on top. It was evenly split between bike share lovers and believers in the power o...

The IHOPplebees In Downtown Detroit Is A Step Closer To Reality

First announced late last year, the combination restaurant is going in what was once a Sweet Lorraine’s on Jefferson, across from the RenCen. Allow Me To Freak Out About $400K Homes In My Old Detroit Neighborhood

I last spent time in Woodbridge Farms, my old neighborhood, last fall, when I joined some coworkers to plant trees with crews from the Greening of Detroit. And I wrote about what I saw and how it illustrated the dramatic and jarring ways that Detroit is changing. But nothing quite prepared me for this. A developer team is working with the city to invest around $6 million to build up to 27 houses in the historic neighborhood, which began in the early 1870s. All good. But here’s the kicker, vi...

Cable Car Crossing Over Detroit River Floated By Windsor Mayor As Part Of Amazon Bid

It’s an idea that has been in the minds of Detroit and Windsor civic leadership since the 1960s — an aerial tramway or cable car between the two cities, crossing the international border between Canada and Detroit. Discussions then, as far as we can find it, were revived in 1985, with a study funded by Detroit’s Downtown Development Authority. Obviously, a cable car or gondola over the river never got built. The idea has now been raised by Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, according CTV. “Perhap...
