What to know and where to go in Metro Detroit

Look inside Detroit's new Warby Parker retail store (PICS)

Saturday was the first official day open for the new Warby Parker location on Woodward in downtown Detroit. The store seemed to have a steady stream of people coming in and out, and since it’s the newest thing, we thought we’d share some pictures. Located on the original site of the pharmacy of James Vernor, the creator of one of our most iconic drinks, Vernor’s, there’s a hat tip to the history with a soda fountain spigot in the back. The space is very attractive. Woodward from Campus...

PICS, RENDERINGS: Large Brush Park project to start construction next week

The Brush Park neighborhood of Detroit at one time was full of the stately homes of some of the big leaders in the city. Later this week major construction will kick off on what some estimate to be a $70 million or more investment into an area just larger than...

Pedal Pubs In The City Of Detroit Are Now Able To Serve Alcohol

If you were out and about at all in downtown Detroit this summer, you probably saw (or heard the patrons of) the contraptions called pedal pubs wind their way through the streets of Detroit. However, despite having “pub” in their name, alcohol wasn’t being served on board. The state of Michigan has had a framework in place for a little while to allow the pedal pubs to serve alcohol, but a local city ordinance prohibited it. Today, thanks to Detroit city council, that changed. An ordinance...

Count this as one of the more fun online Detroit-themed surprises this year. While looking up some information for another post, we stumbled upon a 404 page. That basically means a page that wasn’t found from a bad link. But what happened next? It made us lose an hour of the day. Turns out on that 404 page there’s a game where you can fly a potato with wings through Eastern Market, much like the addictive game “Flappy Bird” that was around for awhile. The background is an 8-bit rendering of...
