Today we had the chance to check out the renovation progress being made on the Checker Building in Corktown.
The building is part of the first phase in the Elton Park development by the Soave Real Estate Group. It is located right across the street from the old Tiger Stadium.
The Checker Building will have 45 one-bedroom loft apartments and seven two-bedroom loft apartments. The one-bedroom apartments range between 600 to 900 square feet and the two bedroom apartments are between 950 to 1,175 square feet.
The building has a rooftop terrace for tenants and will also have space for ground floor retail and dining.
There are 101 covered parking spaces in the building thanks to the old Checker Cabs parking deck.
While on the tour we were able to see a furnished one bedroom apartment.
This bedroom was a tad on the smaller side, but it’s still nice.
The kitchens are sleek and clean looking.
Each unit has its own washer and dryer, so that’s a bonus.
Some of the apartments will have a view of what the developers are calling Checker Alley. Which is going to be an activated gathering space between the Checker Building and 2120 Trumbull.
There have been a lot of changes to the building, but some of the things that are staying are the Checker wall paintings.
Rent will run you between $1,020 for one-bedroom units and $1,900 for a two-bedroom unit.
The Checker Building is the first building in the Elton Park development that will be completed. They are now pre-leasing and tenants are expected to be able to move into the building in December.
The five other buildings in the development are expected to finished in the spring of 2019.
