There’s something brewing in Royal Oak, and it’s a different kind of concept. I was able to check out the newest Jolly Pumpkin location in Royal Oak today — but this is a kind of unique situation as the Dexter-based brewery is partnering with Royal Oak based Bastone Brewery in a dual concept.
Jolly Pumpkin will open to the public tomorrow Tuesday, August 8.
Both Bastone Brewery and Jolly Pumpkin have worked together behind the scenes since they opened in 2004.
Ron Jeffries from Jolly Pumpkin helped Bastone set up the brewery. Bastone’s David Ritchie has been a consultant for the restaurant side of Jolly Pumpkin since they opened in Ann Arbor.
There are two distinct styles inside the new dual brewery.
Bastone Brewery will be taking over the space that use to be Monk Beer Abbey.
Bastone will have an old world pub feel. This section is more intimate with indoor seating for 60, and 36 seats on the outdoor patio.
Bastone Brewery is going back to their roots and will offer its Belgian beers and food. You’ll be able to find mussels, pommes frites, and Belgian blue burger.
Jolly Pumpkin will be taking over the remaining space, including Vinotecca’s old space.
The wall that separated Bastone and Vinotecca is long gone.
Jolly Pumpkin will have indoor seating for 210 people, plus an extra 40 on the patio.
The Jolly Pumpkin menu will have artisan pizzas, burgers and truffle fries.
Let’s face facts, this is a brewery so the biggest draw will be the beer.
There will be a full bar with a large selection of Jolly Pumpkin, Bastone and North Peak beers on tap.
“Bastone Brewery and Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales both specialize in distinct Belgian styles,” said David Ritchie, managing partner. “We’re excited about the partnership and the collaboration brew that will only be available at this Royal Oak location.”
The new collaborative brew is called Cooperation Ale. It is a fusion of Jolly Pumpkin’s La Rosa and Bastone’s Nectar des Deux.
Hours: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m.-11:00 p.m., Friday 11:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 a.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
