If you’re not familiar with the IT in the D Pink Slip Party events, you should be, especially if you’re looking for a job in the IT space in Metro Detroit.
It’s expected that somewhere around 1,000 people will show up this Thursday at the Majestic in Midtown Detroit, including more than 150 recruiters as well as those looking to meet people in the industry and extend their professional networks.
Some other things to know about this event. There’s a lot of things that are not there. There is no cover charge, there are no speeches, agendas or sales pitches. No multi-level marketing people, insurance folks or fruit basket salespeople. Over the last decade the IT in the D group (which various team members of the Daily Detroit team have appeared on their podcast) has focused in and around the information technology industry, helping more than 1,200 people get jobs through their non-traditional events that instead of bringing piles of resumes, you network one beer at a time.
Although IT in the D holds regular events, the Pink Slip Party is a bigger deal. Recruiters all get lanyards with a badge so they’re easily identifiable to those looking for gigs, and people looking for gigs also get a nametag so that they’re able to get picked out of the crowd as well. There are sponsors but they’re low-key and are the only companies who get to set up a table.
In recap, the event is tomorrow (Thursday March 19, 2015) at the Majestic. It’s at 4120 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201. Kicks off at 5 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. – 9p.m.
