Imagine a networking event that’s also actually fun. It’s a rarity, right? If you’re in the I.T. (information technology) or other tech-related space – and looking for a job – then this may be the event for you.
The IT in the D Pink Slip Party is returning to the Majestic Theatre on Thursday, September 15 starting at 5 p.m.
As many as a thousand people have shown up in the past for what could be Detroit’s largest regular networking event.
The organization has been doing networking events since 2001 and their first Pink Slip Party was in 2009, when things were looking a lot more dire for the economy than today.
Held at the Majestic Theatre in the Midtown neighborhood of Detroit, the event is more casual than what you might typically think of. Think less job fair and bringing a thousand copies of your resume in a suit, waiting in line to only be handed a card to apply online somwhere, and more like meeting friends or work acquaintances at the bar – but those friends could help you land the job you’ve been looking for. The idea is to get to know people as well as skill sets.
There are no speakers at this event, no pitches, and per their information page, multi-level marketing salespeople and other types of folks who are looking to sell their wares are not welcome. There are sponsors, and they help cover the cost of the events which organizers say is a break-even proposition.
The Pink Slip Party event is open to the public, although recruiters are asked to get in touch with the organization ahead of time so they can properly help you (there is no charge for recruiters or attendees). Although the event starts at 5 p.m., it often runs past 7 p.m.
