Detroit Design Festival (DDF): North America’s Festival of Independent Design, is now in its fifth year. They have added a new component in five large scale installations created by designers from around the world inspired by the theme of “play.”
The installations will be on display throughout the Dequindre Cut from September 26 through October 10.
The goal of the displays is to encourage playful interaction – in the form of self-guided walking tours – between design, greenspace and the urban fabric of Detroit while enjoying many other events taking place during the festival.
The five installations are winners of a $2,500 grant in support of their work and debut at the Detroit Design Festival. There were more than 50 applications for the coveted prize.
“We launched the Public Design Installation Competition to encourage designers to develop experimental bodies of work that explore playful solutions to the socio-economic challenges facing our region.” says Matthew Clayson, DC3 Executive Director.
If you didn’t know, DDF is an annual celebration of design and creativity, taking place September 22-16, that connects independent designers with new markets and showcases the Detroit aesthetic with the rest of the world.
DDF is produced by The Detroit Creative Corridor Center, an economic development organization focused on supporting Detroit’s creative industries and putting Detroit on the map as a global city of design and innovation.
