Have you ever wanted to poke around the Packard Plant, but were afraid of getting picked up for trespassing?
You’re in luck because Pure Detroit and Arte Express Detroit will be offering public tours of the plant starting Saturday, August 12.
The Packard Plant was designed by Albert Kahn was was completed in 1903. The current complex takes up 40 acres of land.
“Pure Detroit is excited to help highlight the extraordinary history of the Packard Plant with our partners Arte Express Detroit and the Packard Plant Project,” said Kevin Borsay, owner, Pure Detroit. “Our walking tours will offer a unique and enriching experience that focuses on the plant’s past, present and future contribution to the vitality of the city.”
Here are the details:
Getting to tour the Packard Plant is going to cost you a pretty penny, as it is $40 per person. You will also need to buy your tickets in advance, because they will only allow 30 people per tour.
There will be two tours offered on Saturdays at noon and 3:00 p.m.
This is a walking tour, and it will last roughly 90 minutes. Tour goers will be walking one to two miles during the tour.
Take it from someone who has been inside a few abandoned buildings, wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Also, a flashlight might not be a bad idea.
Because of the current condition of the complex only people over the age of 18 will be able to take this tour. You’re also going to have to sign a waiver to go on this tour.
The tour will begin at a new Pure Detroit pop-up shop in the parking lot across the street from the Packard Plant Administration Building at 1585 East Grand Boulevard in Detroit.
