The forecast for this weekend looks bright and inspiring for this free event for everyone in Detroit.
This Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., 75 professional artists, 12 emerging high school artists, food, interactive art activities, and live demos will color Detroit’s Palmer Park in this new season.
This year, a new Teen Artists Program opens at the event as an opportunity for 12 artists from area high schools to sell their art work. These students have been working within the Teen Artists Program to learn the business of art.
Several arts and crafts activities in the Family Activities Tent both Saturday and Sunday welcome children, who may also enjoy watching murals being made, iron being cast, and t-shirt making. Admission is free whether you’re coming from near or far. Parking is along Merrill Plaissance with patrols that will help to keep an eye on your vehicle. There is plenty of space for bikers to lock up, too, but they suggest bringing a basket to take home your art.
Palmer Park is one of Detroit’s less talked about gems and is located at Woodward Ave. between 7 Mile & McNichols.
