Scrapping is a long-standing problem in the city of Detroit. Whether it’s houses stripped of their plumbing or wires pulled from light poles. Hundreds of power and telephone lines are stolen by scrappers each year in the city.

The latest, according to the Detroit News, is that a pair of men were electrocuted at a Detroit Public Lighting Authority substation Friday morning.

The two are preliminarily believed by Detroit Police to have been attempting to steal copper. They are now leading the investigation.

The incident caused a power outage in the area near the intersection of Harper and Raymond Avenues around 4 a.m. Fire officials were dispatched near 7 a.m. after workers discovered the bodies.
