A $5.1 million project by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin resurfacing 8 Mile Road (M-102) between Woodward Ave. (M-1) and the Southfield Freeway (M-39).
The construction kicks off tonight, Monday, August 14 at 7 p.m. and will run through late October.
All told, there will be 4.6 miles of 8 Mile Road resurfaced.
According to MDOT information relayed by the city of Ferndale, the work will consist of removing and replacing the road surface, repairing joints and cracks, repairing drainage structures, replacing curbs, and updating sidewalks to be Americans Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant.
Woodward Dream Cruise fans will take pleasure that work will be suspended during the weekend of August 18-20 for their event.
Beginning tonight, eastbound and westbound M-102 will have nightly lane closures that will leave two lanes open from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Friday.
During the overnight work, the westbound M-102 service drive will be closed to through-traffic at M-1 but will have access to northbound M-1. The northbound M-39 ramp to eastbound M-102 will be closed.
Work will be performed during nights and weekends to minimize the impact on traffic and lighter traffic makes for a safer work zone. There also will additional lights and message signs.
