Rocket Fiber, a local Gigabit Internet provider that offers customers internet speeds up to 1,000 times faster than the average residential connection, has finally expanded outside of the Central Business District of downtown and into more of what’s known as “Greater Downtown.”
The Midtown, Brush Park, and New Center neighborhoods now have access to Rocket Fiber, according to this blog post by Rocket Fiber.
Rocket Fiber launched Gigabit Internet in January. At the time of the launch, there were only three residential buildings online. Now, there are 18 buildings online:
The Albert
The Malcomson
Lofts of Merchants Row
Willy’s Overland Lofts
The Auburn
Cadillac Square Apartments
Forest Arms Apartments
Regis Houze
Town Apartments
Broderick Tower
The David Whitney
Claridge House
The Kales Building
The Ashley
Woodward Lofts
The Residences at the Westin Book Cadillac
Kirby Lofts
The Scott
Rocket Fiber is moving to specific areas based on the demand residents have expressed, so if you want fast internet speeds, go to the Get Fiber tab at rocketfiber.com to let the company know you’re interested.
Competition is heating up in the greater downtown area of the city for internet services. In April of this year, Comcast opened a new Midtown retail store on Woodward and is working to expand its network in Detroit. They’re saying they will be rolling out one gigabit speeds across the city this year.
Meanwhile, a large portion of Detroit households across the city, for a variety of reasons, do not have internet access of any kind.
