There have been a lot of exciting things happening at the Scarab Club this year. In June they unveiled a brand new campaign “We Know Detroit By Art.”
They have kept the momentum going, focusing on bringing the historic club forward into the new with the announcement of a new executive director, Ashley Hennen.
The 28 year old Hennen has previous experience working for nonprofits. She was responsible for communications and sponsorship development for two Detroit area non profits, Hatch Detroit and Tour de Troit.
This experience will help her with her new job duties that include strategic planning, staff management, programming, fund development and community engagement.
“I’m inspired by the Scarab Club’s longstanding commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive meeting place for artists and art-lovers,” said Hennen. “As the club approaches its 110th anniversary, I look forward to leading this institution into a dynamic future at this critical moment in Detroit’s arts & cultural history.”
The Scarab Club, located across the street from the Detroit Institute of Arts, has been an important part of the Cultural District since 1907. The non profit provides art education, exhibitions, musical performances, and so much more for members and community.
“As a board, we’re impressed by Ms. Hennen’s passion for the work we do at the Scarab Club,” said Duncan Campbell, Board President in a statement. “Her entrepreneurial inclination and deep engagement with Detroit’s arts ecosystem will be great assets to the Club.”
If you are interested in meeting Hennen and taking a look at one of Detroit’s historic icons, there will be a meet and greet at the Scarab Club on Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. There will be cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres. If you plan on going be sure to RSVP.
The Scarab Club is located at 217 Farnsworth Street in Detroit.
