There have been a multitude of jerseys on the Spirit of Detroit. Red Wings. Tigers. Pistons. Even one for a community action group (ARISE! Detroit). But never a Detroit Lions jersey.
Until today.
A steady stream of Lions fans have been coming by the Spirit of Detroit statue outside of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Building all day, taking selfies and family photos. It seems that there’s a ton of interest in the Detroit Lions jersey.

The custom jersey process isn’t a small feat. There are fees to the city ($6,500 to repair damage left by the jersey) as well as the jersey itself that has to be custom-made to fit the 26-foot-tall Marshall Fredericks statue that was dedicated in 1958. When it was cast, it was the largest bronze statue commissioned in the world since Renaissance times.
