Rarely do you get to see pieces of artwork come to life. However, on Friday, October 13 Step Afrika! will be performing at the Detroit Film Theatre inside the Detroit Institute of Art.
The performance is based on the painting series titled “The Migration” by Jacob Lawrence. “The Migration” tells the story of the African American migration of the early 1900s.
Step Afrika! is an internationally-renowned dance company that incorporates dance, stepping and body percussion.
Following the performance the audience is invited to view the wall panels of some of Lawrence’s “Migration Series”. There will also be a discussion in the African American Gallery at 8:30 p.m.
The performance begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the performance are $35 for general admission; $20 for children under 17; and $25 for students, seniors and DIA members.
The Detroit Film Theatre and Detroit Institute of Art is located at 5200 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48202
