What happens when the people behind a popular event just stop doing it with little explanation? You get a handful of Detroit restaurants taking things in to their own hands and organizing their own version of the event.
Welcome to the Motor City Restaurant Week. MCRW started on September 23 and goes until October 2.
We’re not exactly sure what happened to Detroit Restaurant Week. Earlier this year the organizers said that they were not holding the spring event. I know I was pretty upset that it was canceled, and I’m sure others were as well. The organizers first said that the would be focusing on the fall restaurant week, and now they’re “on hiatus.”
I reached out to DRW to find out if they were planning on having the fall restaurant week but they never returned my message.
So out with the old, and in with the new (at least for now). Let’s break down the Motor City Restaurant Week. Each restaurant has a special three course menu for $35 per person.
The restaurants that are involved with restaurant week version 2.0 are; 24Grille, Andiamo’s Riverfront, Cliff Bells, Mario’s, Traffic Jam & Snug, The Whitney, Prism and Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails. If you click on the links you will be taken directly to their special MCRW menu. Andiamo’s Riverfront and Prism do not have their menus online, so you might need to call them.
After looking at all of the available menus these are my top three restaurants.
Cliff Bell’s
Cliff Bell’s has a pretty fun menu for restaurant week. If you want to impress your date I suggest trying to get in here. Between the food, drinks, ambiance, and music it is one of the best places for date night. My top menu pick is the Dante’s shrimp cocktail.

24Grille
I have never had a bad meal at 24Grille. I love the vibe that 24Grille has as well, plus it is in one of my favorite buildings downtown. If you’ve never been to the Book Cadillac I highly suggest taking a little walk around the lobby. As for the special menu, I have my eye on the vodka cream pasta.
Address: 204 Michigan Avenue Detroit, MI 48226 – Phone number: (313) 964-3821
The Whitney
If you have never been to The Whitney, this is a great opportunity to get dinner. If you have ever wondered what in one of the great mansions of Detroit looks like on the inside, this is your chance. The menu looks great, and they are really giving you the option to have a spectacular meal for a great price. My top menu pick is the tenderloin tower.
Address: 4421 Woodward Avenue Detroit, MI 48201 – Phone number: (313) 832-5700
You can also make a reservation at Open Table.
There are two restaurants that have not put a menu up yet and they are Andiamo and Prism.
Since we are already smack dab in the middle of MCRW I suggest you start figuring out where you want to go and make reservations as quickly as possible. I hear that Saturday is pretty much booked for all of the restaurants. If you’re flexible you should be get into your top pick. For reservations call the restaurant directly.
