QLINE, I Love You But We Need To Talk

At first, you hear the warm voice of Carmen Harlan. “Grand Circus Park, brought to you by Chevrolet” the recorded message assures the passengers. Next, you hear some weird, garbled digital voice finishing the sentence, telling you about the attractions at that stop. That contrast is exactly the QLINE today. We wanted to step back, let some kinks work out, and then add something. Optimistically, one could think hey, it’ll take some time to iron things out. We’re now a month in, and the...

The Illuminated Mural Will Stay Thanks To Suit Settlement

You can’t miss it if you’re looking east near Woodward and Grand Boulevard. It’s tall at nine stories, colorful, and unmistakable. It’s called the Illuminated Mural, and it has been at the center of a lawsuit between Detroit-based artist Katie Craig who sued developer Princeton Enterprises under the Visual Artists Rights Act last January. Now comes word the two sides have settled Thursday, on the eve of the purchase of the building to The Platform, a development group in the city that’s making...

Artist Clearance & Artist To Artist Sale At The Tangent Gallery April 2

Having a few artists in the family, it’s amazing how they can repurpose things and make beautiful items out of what at first seems like nothing. But that “nothing” is something, and this is a town that’s always looking for a good deal. So when got word that the organizers of Detroit Rummage and Detroit Artist Bazaar have once again combined the two annual sales events into one called the Detroit Artist Clearance & Artist-to-Artist Sales Event, we thought we’d share. Woodpile BBQ To Open Location On Woodward In Detroit In Early 2018

Last month my husband and I decided to try out Woodpile BBQ in Clawson. We enjoy trying out all of the different places throughout the region, so it had been on our list for a while. We all really enjoyed our meal. So, when I got the news that the Woodpile BBQ will be opening a second location in the Milwaukee Junction neighborhood of Detroit I was excited. If you’re unfamiliar with where Milwaukee Junction is, it is across Woodward from New Center. The restaurant will be 2,000 square feet a...
