Detroit Police Athletic League Tiger Stadium

The Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL) has launched its “Kids at The Corner” fundraising campaign.

Detroit PAL is a youth development nonprofit that empowers the community by training volunteer coaches and creating safe places for kids to play. The organization serves over 12,000 boys and girls annually. The ultimate goal of the fundraiser is to expand the program to serve up to 15,000 kids.

The nonprofit hopes to raise $15.5 million to reach its fundraising goal. The money will go towards the redevelopment of the old Tiger Stadium located at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. Detroit PAL plans to turn the renovated athletic field into new PAL headquarters, which will help accommodate the program’s growth.

United States Senator and Detroit PAL campaign co-chair Carl Levin, has secured an initial $3 million federal grant for the nonprofit.

The campaign, only a few days old, started at the MVP Awards Dinner on Thursday, Feb. 26. Honorees at the dinner included Rod Alberts and the Detroit Automotive Dealers Association, the Skillman Foundation, and the Detroit Lions offensive lineman Rob Sim and his wife Natalie.

Through this fundraiser, Detroit PAL hopes to expand the impact of its mission to offer community children academic, athletic, and leadership development programs.
