Some of the biggest coaching names in the NFL will participate in the annual Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) football academy on June 11-12 at Dakota High School in Macomb.
The coaching lineup includes University of Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh, Ohio State University’s National Champion Urban Meyer, Michigan State University’s Mark Dantonio, and Notre Dame University’s Brian Kelly.
They will be joined by NFL Detroit Lion’s Jim Caldwell, 2015 NFL Hall of Fame Inductee Jerome Bettis, world-renowned motivational speaker, Eric Thomas and NY Jets Kevin Vickerson. In total, more than 300 NFL and college coaches will come together to teach Detroit youth.
The SMSB foot ball academy is hosted by Adidas, and it’s the company’s primary grassroots initiative. It’s the only program in the nation where student-atheletes spend more time in the classroom than on the field.
SMSB provides two days of instruction, coaching and mentoring, including sessions led by many of the national college coaches and motivational speakers.
“College coaches and parents appreciate that we focus on the whole individual, mind and body. The student-athletes are excited to be mentored and coached by the best of the best in college football,” said Deon Johnson, SMSB Detroit camp director.
Since its founding, SMSB has reached over 12,000 high school football players, with over 9,500 of them graduating from high school.
