Hello all of you wonderful people!
I hope that you are all having a great week so far.
Don’t forget that this Sunday is Father’s Day, so if you haven’t gone out to find that special gift for the dad’s in your life you still have time.
I have also included some dad specific ideas for things to do this Sunday.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Quicken Loans Demo Day
This Friday is the 3rd Annual Quicken Loans Demo Day, which is a pitch competition for businesses in Detroit.
Fifteen finalists have been chosen to do a live pitch on the stage of the Fillmore Detroit. The finalists are vying for a share of $1.2 million to start, scale, or grow their business. Seven of the businesses will take home a piece of the pie.
Some of my favorite businesses are finalists like Narrow Way Cafe and Sister Pie. so that’s really cool. There are some other great small businesses who are finalists as well.
The best part of the evening is the People’s Choice Award, where people in the audience gets to vote for their favorite business in each category. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will each receive a $25,000 grant.
After the competition the audience will be treated to a musical performance from a Grammy Award Winning artist. It’s a surprise…so I have no idea who it could be. Last year Common was the special guest, so I’m sure it will be awesome.
Tickets are free, but limited. So if you want to go I suggest you register right away.
Friday, June 14 at 5:00 p.m.
The Fillmore Detroit is located at 2115 Woodward Avenue Detroit, MI 48201
Scarab Club Garden Party
Summer weather means that it’s time for garden parties, and this weekend is the annual Scarab Club Garden Party. It’s one of my favorite garden parties of the year.
Stroll through the garden, check out the current exhibitions, listen to the live stylings of Oblique Noir, and enjoy plenty of food and drinks.
It sounds like a lovely way to spend a Friday night in Detroit.
Tickets for the party are $50 per person, or $45 if you are a Scarab Club member. You can purchase them here.
Friday, June 14 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
The Scarab Club is located at 217 Farnsworth Street Detroit, MI 48202
Corktown Cabaret
Looking to enjoy some burlesque this weekend? Well, I have just the event for you. Plus, this time you will get to enjoy the show under the stars.
This Saturday night is the first ever Corktown Cabaret in the courtyard of the Trumbull & Porter Hotel in Corktown.
The evening will be filled with performances by Leena Allure, Margaux Royale, Hannah the Hatchet, Tommy Gunn, Kellie Danger, and Darryn Storm. The host for the evening is Eartha Kitten.
Tickets are $20 per person, you can buy them here.

Father’s Day at Batch Brewing
Sunday is Father’s Day, so why not take the special dad’s in your life out for a little brunch action at Batch Brewing in Corktown.
I know the Prime Rib Hash has my husband’s name written all over it. As for me, I think I might have to try the cinnamon and sugar pretzel.
Have I mentioned how much I love sitting on the patio at Batch? Because it’s pretty awesome.
I suggest getting there early, because the food might move pretty quickly since it’s Father’s Day.
Sunday, June 16 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Batch Brewing Company is located at 1400 Porter Street Detroit, Michigan 48216
Dad’s Day at Eastern Market Brewing Company
Yep, more beer.
After you’re done hitting up Batch Brewing for brunch might I suggest making your way over to Eastern Market Brewing Company.
The brewery will be celebrating Father’s Day by giving all dad’s a free beer. There’s one stipulation, you just have to be with your child. Don’t worry, you can be an adult child and it will still count.
Sunday, June 16 from 11:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Eastern Market Brewing Company is located at 2515 Riopelle Detroit, Michigan 48207
P.S If you’re going to be in Eastern Market on Sunday don’t forget that the summer Sunday Market is going on, so that’s another thing you can do with your favorite dad.
Bonus
Flags at the Fisher
This Friday is Flag Day, and the Fisher Building is celebrating by unveiling a collection of 60 flags from around the country.
These aren’t just any old flags though. These flags were commissioned by the seven Fisher brothers and were displayed when the Fisher Building opened in 1928.
You can pick up an informational pamphlet about the flags at any of the shops inside the Fisher.
There is no charge to check out theses 91 year old flags.
The flags will be on display until July 3rd. So even if you can’t make it over to the Fisher Building this weekend you can still check them out.
While you’re there you can share your flag pictures on social media with the hashtag of #FlagsAtTheFisher.
Friday, June 14 through Wednesday, July 3
The Fisher Building is located at 3011 W. Grand Boulevard Detroit, Michigan 48202
