Hey there everyone! Here’s your weekend round up of the best events in the City of Detroit this weekend.

I’m not sure how this week has been for you, but it has flown by for me.

I can’t believe we are already halfway through the month of May. Can you?

There is a lot going on this weekend, let’s get going shall we?

ArtBlock Open House and Exhibition

Looking to get out and look at some really great public art this weekend? I’ve got just the thing for you.

This Friday night is the ArtBlock open house and exhibition.

The collaborative space for artists, youth and community members was created by a partnership between Henry Ford Health Systems and 1xRUN.

I think I’m most excited to check out the new murals by Michelle Tanguay and Fel3000ft. There are also interactive sculptures and textile installations by local artists.

Not only is there an open house, but there will be a block party with the current businesses in the neighborhood. You can find all of the participating businesses here.

Friday, May 17 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

ArtBlock is located at 1411 Holden Street Detroit, Michigan 48208

Wheelmobile

If you have ever wanted to try out to be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, this is your chance. The Wheelmobile will be at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre (formerly Chene Park) this weekend, and they are looking for new contestants for the show.

I broke it all down on the podcast last month…you can listen to it here.

3rd Annual Spring into Corktown

This Saturday is the 3rd Annual Spring into Corktown event, and there is so much to keep you occupied and entertained.

If you feel like helping clean up Corktown, volunteer for the Motor City Makeover happening that day.

There will be free yoga and fitness classes throughout the day at Dean Savage Park.

Hop on your bike for a bike tour through Corktown thanks to Metropolis Cycles.

If you feel like using your legs to get around the Detroit Experience Factory is having Corktown walking tours throughout the day.

Kids are also welcome and encouraged to come. There will be a free kids carnival on the corner of Harrison and Michigan Avenue. There will be a bounce house, petting zoo, face paint, lawn games, and carnival treats.

Finally there will be a pop up market and food trucks on the corner of Trumbull and Bagley.

While you’re in Corktown be sure to stop by all of the great shops and restaurants throughout Corktown.

You can find the schedule for all of the classes and tours here.

Spring Fling on Livernois

I spend a lot of time going up and down Livernois along the Avenue of Fashion, and I love all of the small businesses that are there.

This Saturday is the Spring Fling on Livernois. There are a number of participating businesses that will be doing something special throughout the day.

You can find the list of participating businesses here. Be sure to stop by DCreated Boutique, especially if you have a little one in your life. Her clothes are darling.

Saturday, May 18 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Multiple locations along Livernois Avenue

Flower Day

This Sunday is the Eastern Market Flower Day. This is a time honored tradition that has been a part of metro Detroiters lives since 1967.

If you plan on going to Flower Day I suggest getting there early, because it can get pretty crowded. Plus you will get the best variety of flowers and plants.

If you don’t have a wagon to carry your flats of plants there will be carts to rent by the hour from C& L Sales.

Every year Eastern Market commissions a new Flower Day poster, and this years artist is Phil Simpson. His poster doesn’t disappoint….be sure to check it out.

Don’t forget to check out some of the other shops throughout Eastern Market like Rocky’s, DeVries, and Germack.

Sunday, May 19 from  7:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.

Eastern Market is located on Russell Street in Detroit.
