That’s right, folks, the equinox has passed and fall is officially here. Like it or not, it’s time to accept that summer will soon disappear entirely from our rearview mirror, as we drive full speed into winter’s icy barren soul.
Don’t fret just yet, though, because this weekend’s weather is looking good and there are plenty of fall-y good times to be had by all.

DIY Street Fair – Friday – Sunday – Ferndale
The next in the annual string of Ferndale festivals kicks off this Friday with the return of the DIY Street Fair.
Shop the work of hundreds of local artists and groove to some of the city’s best bands at this funky 3-day party behind the WAB in Ferndale. In addition to the art and music you’ll enjoy grub from the mac shack, Delectabowl and more, as well as great beer from a variety of local brewers.

Under The Cut – Saturday – Detroit
On Saturday, check out one of the coolest areas in Detroit, The Dequinder Cut, for the Under the Cut art exhibition.
Presented by the Detroit Design Festival and the Detroit River Front Conservancy, this all day event will celebrate the debut of five large-scale installations from designers all over the world. The collective theme of the exhibit is an exploration of the word “play”, so you can expect some innovative, fun, and quirky pieces that the whole family can enjoy. I’d recommend bringing a bike and cruising the length of the cut while you’re there, too.

Heard Detroit – Saturday – Detroit
When you’re through cruising the cut, make your way over to Milliken State Park and join artist Nick Cave for the continuation of his renowned sound suit performance series, as the Cranbrook Art Museum and the Detroit River Front Conservancy present “Heard Detroit.”
The project will feature a procession of as many as 30 life-size horse sculptures operated by 60 dancers along the Detroit riverfront, creating a dreamlike vision that will bend your mind in strange and pleasant directions.

DSO In Your Community – Saturday – Warren
If you love the Detroit Symphony Orchestra but haven’t had room in the budget for a show lately, then head out to Lincoln High School in Warren this Saturday for the next installment of the DSO in your community event.
Whether you’re a classical music aficionado, or have only been exposed to classical music through the classic Looney Tunes cartoons, this event is the perfect opportunity to experience the power of classical music performed by one of the world’s finest symphony orchestras.

Family Sundays at the DIA – Sunday – Detroit
If you’re riding high on culture vibes after the DSO performance on Saturday, then make your way back to the D for Family Sunday’s at the DIA.
In addition to the DIA’s renowned collection of art, the museum will host performances, storytelling, art-making workshops and more, keeping the whole family engaged and entertained all day.
Sunday museum hours are 10 a.m. -5 p.m., so get out there and enjoy one of Detroit’s most magnificent gems.
