Concert of Colors – Thursday-Sunday – Midtown, Detroit – Free Admission!

If you missed the kick off to this event last weekend, don’t fret, because you’ve got another chance to enjoy the spectacle this weekend. Its tough to sum this dynamic event in a few sentences, but you can expect plenty of great music, art, food and drinks, all spilled across several of Detroit’s most beautiful venues – The DIA, Max M. Fischer Theater, and Orchestra Hall. Admission is free and this one is certainly family friendly, so bring the whole posse. If you want to take a look at the schedule to plan your day, head over to concertofcolors.com for a full list of performers, showtimes, and schedule of events.

Sermon at Temple Bar With Ryan Dahl and Peter Croce – Temple Bar, Detroit – Friday, 10 p.m. -2 a.m. – 21+

Head over to Temple bar on Friday for a dance party that’s sure to help you burn off the stale stench of the work week. Ryan Dahl and Peter Croce will spin roots based dance music that will keep you moving all the way up to last call. Temple Bar is always a sure fire good time, and it’s also one of the more consistently affordable nights out you’ll find in Detroit. Cover for this one? $2 before midnight and $3 after. With that cover and cheap drinks you’ll be hard pressed to find a better deal for a banger of this caliber anywhere.

Yoga at the Zoo – Detroit Zoo – 8 a.m. – $30

If you did it right on Temple bar on Friday, you may not want to get an early start the next morning. But if you can manage to drag yourself out of bed and slip into some comfortable gear, then go expel some toxins with yoga at the zoo. There are close to 1,000 people already registered, so don’t wait much longer to get tickets. The $30 price tag may seem a bit steep at first glance, but your money goes a long way and includes a professionally led yoga class, on-site parking, and a full day’s admission to the zoo. You will need to pre-register for the event, which you can do here. And don’t worry, word has it that you’ll be upwind of the wildlife stank.

**** SIDENOTE: If you can’t roll out of bed but still want to repair your body and brain damage, check out Sky Deck Flow on Saturday evening, brought to you by Detroit Community Yoga!

Detroit FC vs Michigan Stars FC – Cass Tech High School – Saturday, 7:30 p.m. kick off, gates open at 6:30 p.m. – $10

The Detroit City FC has certainly come into their own over the last few years. Just last week they set a new attendance record, drawing 3,701 fans to Cass Tech High School’s field. Weather or not you’re a fan of the sport, these games are an absolute blast and are becoming a cornerstone of the Detroit lifestyle. Head down early for all the pre-match festivities at Harry’s Detroit, and stick around for the spirited march to the match. If you’ve still got a voice and some energy to spare, then you can keep the party going at Nancy’s Whiskey for the official post-match event.

You can get tickets online or at the gate, but with the growing popularity of these games, we would suggest getting them ahead of time. If you absolutely can’t make it, you can always catch it on the live stream. Oh, and if you need a little extra encouragement, watch this video. If that doesn’t get you jacked for some soccer action I don’t know what will! ALLEZ LA ROUGE!

Disco Brunch – The Keep, Detroit – Sunday, 2 p.m.

Ok, there is actually an amazing amount of cool things happening this Sunday, so again, be sure to check out our events calendar to find something that suits you, but this event takes the cake, or disco biscuit, if you will. Last week we featured a Gospel Brunch in Corktown, this week, it’s Disco Brunch with The Keep, an Underground speak easy styled bar serving classic and contemporary cocktails with a rotating beer and wine selection. Check out their new location in Cadillac Square and enjoy this little Sunday shindig. They are keeping the menu under wraps at the moment, but these guys know what they’re doing, so you’re sure to be in for a great meal and party. Music will be provided by DJ Jerry Downey and the food and drinks start flowing at 2pm.

BONUS!

Ok, this is probably the coolest thing on the list in my humble opinion, but it might not be for everyone so we tagged it on as a bonus. At 8am this Saturday, the Park Avenue Hotel will meet it’s impressive end as it’s imploded in order to make way for the new Red Wings arena. While the decision to demolish the building (rather than restore it to it’s former glory) has been met with some opposition, it’s happening. Whether or not you’re sad to see it go it is going to be quite a site to see, so find a good spot a safe distance away and watch it all unfold in dramatic fashion. For a bit on the buildings history, click here. The Park is located at 2643 Park Avenue in Detroit.
