Alright everybody, the first weekend of March is here. That means spring is theoretically on the horizon and there’s lot’s of really cool activities going on in Detroit this weekend. It was actually difficult to prune them down to 5 gems, but alas, here’s your City 5 for this weekend.
All Weekend – Motor City Tattoo Expo – Want to see up whats up with the latest in ink culture? Make a Detroit-ey day of it and check out the Motor City Tattoo Expo, a meetup of tattoo artists and enthusiasts from around the country. Day pass $20, weekend pass is $40.
Friday – Detroit Artists Market awards and exhibition – Into the Arts? Here’s one that should be interesting. The DAM proudly presents its 2015 Detroit Artists Market Annual Scholarship Awards and Exhibition Program, featuring the presentation of awards and exhibition of work by 10 of Detroit’s most outstanding student artists and distinguished alumni and faculty members. The exhbition opens on Friday night with a member’s preview from 6-7 pm and the public reception from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. This event is free.
Saturday – Detroit Delhi @ Pop – This is the “foodie” pick of the week, but really it just looks an awesome brunch. Head to the Checker Bar to see the dynamic duo of Jesse Knott and Lindsay Salminen throw down an intriguing menu of of Indian infused dishes that straddle the line between breakfast and lunch. Menu is reasonably priced!
Saturday and Sunday – Mosaic Singers Youth group – Feel like some music? Detroit’s unique music past and present come alive in the Mosaic Singers annual spring concert. This year, the concert is a tribute to Michael Jackson, which should be an excellent performance by a group whose musical roots run deep. Adult tickets are $24.
Sunday – Balls to the Wall! – Have fun in Detroit by doing good at a benefit for a cause that hits home. Evan Scott Bradish has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and his friends are throwing a huge party at the New Dodge Lounge to relieve the financial stress that the medical predicament has put him in. Come have a beer at an awesome bar in Hamtramck where there will be snacks, live music and cheap drinks. Cost is $10.
